Derrynane and Abbey Island

IMG_2254

Derrynane is mostly famous for being the home of the great Daniel O'Connell. Irelands hero and a crusader for the common man. It is open to the public and is well worth a visit.  His triumphant carriage can also be seen here.

Huge crowds welcomed the Liberator (Daniel O'Connell) back to Ireland in Dublin with hard won rights for the Irish people. Daniel O'Connell's family graveyard at Abbey Island is an interesting spot to take a walk.

The beaches here are some of the best in the world. Clean waters turquoise at times. A dip in the ocean is very refreshing here in the summer months. Surfers will also be interested in the back bench as the surf can be some of the best in Kerry.

There is  magical fairy trails to be found in the woodlands of Derrynane House. It is great fun searching for these fairy houses and as they are so colourful surrounded by lush greenery, makes for a great family photo opportunity!

Searching for the fairy houses  is a great family fun adventure. On a rainy day and in the shelter of the woods makes this a memorable day out for all. There is no fee or charge and the fairy trails are open day and night 350 days of the year!
